Easy Snowflakes Frames with Craft Foam. Perfect for a frozen party.

Easy Snowflake Frames

Local news channels are calling for snow this week which inspired this Snow Day Craft!  You can probably tell we are from Oregon where it never snows…  Most are already dreading the thought of snow but for us it is super exciting!  There is just something so beautiful and peaceful about watching it snow.  Yes, it’s cold but so fun to play in!  With snow on the way it’s the perfect time to make these Winter Snowflake Frames.

Easy Snowflakes Frames with Craft Foam. Perfect for a frozen party.

Start by attaching Crystal Rhinestones or Buttons to the center of Snowflake Shapes.  Then add these adorable Snowflakes to Foam Frames for an easy “Snow Day Craft”.  Frames can be displayed on a refrigerator, locker, or hung on a mirror or hook.  These handmade Snowflake Frames are a great way to display your favorite winter memories.  Not to mention they are a perfect Winter Craft for Kids or for your next Frozen Party!

DIY: Snowflake Frames with Buttons.

Supplies Needed:

Directions for Snowflake Frames:

1.  For the White Frame with Snowflakes & Buttons, begin by attaching the pastel buttons to the center of the small snowflakes with embroidery floss.  Using an embroidery needle, thread white embroidery floss through the foam shape and button holes.  Trim the floss to about 1 1/2″ on each side.  Tie the floss on the back of the foam (once will be enough) because the glue dot will hold it in place.  Don’t create a knot, as the snowflake won’t lie flat against the frame.

It's easy to sew buttons onto craft foam! Great for embellishing snowflake frames.

2.  Once the embroidery floss has been trimmed and tied once, attach the foam snowflake to a 1/2″ Glue Dot.  Then simply stick the snowflakes anywhere you would like on the frame.  Frames can be displayed vertical or horizontal.   Below you will see we created a horizontal frame with 1) Blue Snowflake Shape in the upper left corner of the frame and 3) Pastel Snowflakes in the bottom right corner.

 3.  The opening on the white frame is about 2 1/8 x 3″.  We printed 3 1/2 x 5″ photos for these frames and they worked perfect!  Attach your photo easily to the back of the frame with Glue Dots (just one in each corner of the photo).  Then add 1/2″ Adhesive Magnetic Strips to the back of the photo for a quick and easy refrigerator magnet!  Cut 2) 4 1/2″ Adhesive Magnetic Strips* for horizontal frames or 2) 3″ Magnetic Strips for vertical frames.  *You may want to secure the ends of the Magnetic Strips with a Glue Dot on each end.  If you would prefer a hanging frame, see below for instructions on how to add Jewelry Bails for hanging with ribbon.

4.  Here is how ours turned out.  We featured a photo of an amazing “Snowy Sunset” we had here in Post Falls, Idaho last winter.  However, kids playing in the snow, snowmen, or any winter photo would be perfect for these frames!

Here are a few other Snowflake Frame Ideas:

Using a Black Frame, attach a Large White Snowflake Shape in the center at the top of the vertical frame.  Add an 18mm Crystal Rhinestone to the center of the snowflake shape with a 1/2″ Glue Dot for this look.  To finish, attach photo (with Glue Dots) to the back & magnetic strips or jewelry bails for hanging.

Or make a Blue Frame with Small Pastel Snowflakes & 12mm Crystal Rhinestones (attach with Mini Glue Dots) for this look…

We turned this Blue Snowflake Frame into a hanging frame by attaching 2) Silver Jewelry Bails to the top of the frame with E6000.  Let dry and string with 1/4″ White Satin Ribbon for a quick and easy hanging snowflake frame.  These would be great to display on a hook or hang on a wall.
